This is the comment we hear the most- and the one we cherish the most- because the story of this place really is all about love. Back in the beginning of the 1970s, my grandparents bought this land piece by piece and started building the houses, one after the other. It was not a business move at that time - quite the opposite; it was the result of their rampant creativity and their vision of creating a place where they, their kids, and their loved ones would come together every summer, to enjoy the sun, the sea and, mostly, each other’s company. And so it happened, and the gatherings at our houses soon became a family tradition that would last for decades to come.
...when I and my siblings were children. Every year, towards the end of May, the only thought that would get us through the tedious last month of the school year would be that by the end of it we would be in Olympiada, to spend the summer with our beloved grandparents. I remember that, as children, we would say “Olympiada”, and we would not mean the village, but our place itself. I can still recall my surprise when at some point my parents explained to me that Olympiada was more than whatever lay within our fence. For us, this place, so big and full of wonders to our young eyes, was our very own universe.
...I traveled the world and lived in many different places, but the need to return to Olympiada and this very own universe of mine remained. As an adult, I studied English Language and Literature and furthered my studies with a MA in Anglophone Literature and a second MA in Cultural and Cinema Studies, both of which were the result of my desire to comprehend different cultures and the way they interact with one another, as well as the way in which stories and shared experiences affect us and bind us together as humans. It was this exact desire of mine to connect with people from different walks of life and share this place’s story that made me return to Olympiada in 2016 and open our property’s gate to guests from all over the world. I wanted this place, which has been the background to my family’s happiest memories for decades, to come back to life and become everyone’s happy place and its story to become everyone’s story. Hearing our guests say that they can feel the love surrounding it, makes us feel like we are on the right path.
